The Spanish government's "Verano Joven" program, launched in 2023, aims to make domestic travel more accessible to young people. During the summer months, passengers aged 18–30 receive significant discounts on regular intercity bus services.

In 2025, more than 2.3 million young passengers traveled by bus and long-distance services under this program, compared to 1.6 million in 2023. According to the source, this encouraged carriers to expand services, increase capacities, and strengthen cooperation in the sector.

The state regular routes participating in the program serve 1,814 municipalities and 2,369 residential centers. This provides access not only to major cities but also to smaller settlements, rural areas, and tourist regions where rail connections are limited.

This experience is important for bus operators as it shows how public policy and an extensive bus network can increase passenger flows and distribute tourism benefits over a wider area. The article also suggests better integrating similar solutions into European youth travel programs, including DiscoverEU.
